Description

My main target during NYAA Starfest 2022.

Abell 85 / CTB 1

This target is very faint and I wanted to take advantage of the dark sky during the NYAA Starfest 2022 so I took the challenge.

Abell 85 is a supernova remnant (SNR) in the constellation Cassiopeia and a source of optical, radio, and X-ray emissions. A recent study reports that a pulsar was born from the supernova that produced CTB 1 and ejected into the galaxy, travelling at a velocity exceeding 1000 km/s.

Camera: ASI294MM-P
Filters: Optolong Ha, Oiii
Scope: Skywatcher Evostar 80, 0.8X FF
Mount: AVX
Exposures: Ha - 79x300s; Oiii - 55x300s (Total ~11.2 hours)

Something went wrong initially during the 2nd night of the Starfest, I spent 2 hours problem solving and getting things sorted out.

Processing was a challenge, I am glad that the data was good and that helps processing slightly easier than I thought. Starnet++ plug-in was applied to the stacked image at linear state. Background and the original stacked picture were processed separately. Different layers of Nebulosity, background, stars, colors are blended using Photoshop.
